THE EURASIAN ECONOMIC COMMISSION CONSIDERED THE LIST OF MEASURES FOR COOPERATION WITH THE WCO

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC, Commission) discussed a list of measures to develop cooperation with the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The meeting of the EEC profile Working Group was attended by representatives of the Customs Cooperation Bloc of the Commission and the authorized bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries, whose competence is the development of customs cooperation, as well as the improvement of customs regulation in cooperation with the international customs community. The experts of the Working Group considered legal and organizational approaches for the implementation of paragraph 11.7.5 of the Strategic Directions for the Development of Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025 in terms of interaction with the WCO.

Implementation of the directives of the presidents of the EAEU Member States on the membership of the Union in the WCO and accession to its fundamental legal instruments and tools is a topical issue that is on the agenda of the Customs Cooperation Bloc of the Commission. The tasks set require a comprehensive analysis and search for optimal organizational and legal solutions within the legal framework of the EAEU.

According to the Commission, the results of the work of the Working Group will have a positive impact on the interaction between the EAEU and the WCO in the technical committees on the subject of customs cooperation, including the development of legal instruments of this international customs organization.

Notice: Clause 11.7.5. of the Strategic Directions for the Development of Eurasian Economic Integration until 2025, approved by the Decision of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on December 11, 2020 № 12, provide for such measures as obtaining the Union’s membership status in the WCO, working out the possibility of joining the Union to the WCO fundamental documents.
