HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WCO GLOBAL FORUM ON ORIGIN INTERCONNECTIVITY
The World Customs Organization (WCO) successfully convened the WCO Global Forum on Origin Interconnectivity at its Headquarters, on 3 – 4 February 2025. Supported by the Korea Customs service, and the European Union (EU), through the EU-WCO Programme for Rules of Origin in Africa, this event attracted around 300 in-person participants from 112 countries, and numerous online participants consolidating its prominence as a global forum for origin-related discourse.
2ND WCO SYMPOSIUM ON “REMOVING COUNTERFEITS FROM E-COMMERCE” GENERATES STRONG INTEREST
On 15 January 2025, the World Customs Organization (WCO) held its 2nd Symposium on “Removing counterfeits from e-commerce”. This event was aimed at discussing issues arising from substandard, counterfeit and falsified medicines and medical devices traded through e-commerce.
2ND WCO SYMPOSIUM ON “REMOVING COUNTERFEITS FROM E-COMMERCE”
On 11 June 2024, the WCO organized a Symposium on “Removing counterfeits from e-commerce” preceded by the Operation STOP III report launch. This event, the first of its kind under the IPR, Health and Safety Programme, attracted more than 350 registrations from WCO Member administrations, the Regional Intelligence Liaison Office (RILO) network, international organizations, rights holders, industry, academia and private sector representatives, including e-commerce platforms, Customs brokers, express carriers and postal operators.

Background
For some years now, counterfeiting and piracy have been growing in sophistication. Similarly, e-commerce represents an increasingly serious challenge for Customs administrations because of the proliferation of small consignments. Although e-commerce has had a revolutionary impact on trade and trade practices, it also presents a significant number of issues at the border.

From May 8-10, 2024, the World Customs Organization (WCO) convened its 6th Global Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Conference in the vibrant city of Shenzhen, China. Marking the return to in-person gatherings following the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic, this Conference, supported by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, brought together an array of global trade leaders under the theme “Harnessing the Power of AEO Programmes for Inclusive and Sustainable Global Trade.” Over three days, the event served as a platform for insightful discussions on the future of international trade and the pivotal role of AEO programmes.
