6TH WCO GLOBAL AEO CONFERENCE OPENS IN SHENZHEN, CHINA

On 8 May 2024, the 6th WCO Global AEO Conference was launched in Shenzhen, China, by the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Mr. Ian Saunders. This event, themed “Harnessing the Power of AEO Programmes for Inclusive and Sustainable Global Trade,” attracted over 1,200 attendees from 108 countries. The opening ceremony was graced by the Vice Minister of the General Administration of China Customs (GACC), Mr. Wang Lingjun, and the Mayor of Shenzhen City, Mr. Qin Weizhong, along with other distinguished guests and delegates.

UPDATED VERSION OF WCO RISK MANAGEMENT COMPENDIUM NOW AVAILABLE AS A DYNAMIC WEB APPLICATION

The World Customs Organization (WCO) launched an updated version of its Risk Management Compendium as a dynamic web application.

This essential tool integrates over a decade of insights, risk indicators across various transportation modes, and modern data analysis techniques, including the use of artificial intelligence in Customs risk management. It also addresses emerging challenges, such as the covert threats from insiders in supply chain.

CHARTING THE FUTURE OF CUSTOMS: INSIGHTS FROM THE 243RD/244TH PTC MEETINGS

The 243rd/244th sessions of the Permanent Technical Committee (PTC) took place from 23 to 26 April 2024, in Brussels, Belgium. The meeting brought together more than three hundred delegates from WCO Members, international organizations, the private sector and academia to discuss, provide guidance and endorse issues on a wide range of topics. The blend of perspectives and experiences added depth and richness to the discussions. Since its first meeting in April 1953, this Committee has played a pivotal role in promoting trade facilitation instruments and tools and addressing contemporary challenges that Customs are facing.

THE WCO SMART CUSTOMS PROJECT LAUNCHES GLOBAL SURVEY ON DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION IN CUSTOMS

On April 17, 2024, the WCO Smart Customs Project launched a Survey to gauge the global adoption of disruptive technologies among WCO Members, identify capacity building needs, and foster the exchange of experiences and best practices for updating the WCO/WTO Study Report on Disruptive Technologies (June 2022), which has been approved as a living document.

KICKOFF MEETING OF WCO PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT MECHANISM PROJECT TEAM
