Key milestones and way forward for the WCO Working Group on Performance Measurement

The WCO Working Group on Performance Measurement (WGPM) concluded the virtual session of its 2nd Meeting on 23 October 2020, following a document-based consultation that had provided robust foundations for future decision-making. The delegates of the 2nd Meeting of the WGPM acknowledged the work done to date in forging ahead with its assignment even in a time of crisis and updated its workplan as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the aim of preparing the ground for further steps towards ultimately establishing a comprehensive WCO Performance Measurement Mechanism (PMM).

New Customs Cooperation Fund from Germany

The World Customs Organization and the Central Customs Authority of the Federal Republic of Germany concluded an agreement establishing a Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF-Germany) which is part of German Customs continued action to support the WCO in its efforts to provide assistance to its Members. CCF-Germany funds will be directed to support capacity building activities for member countries of the European Union, potential candidate countries and countries covered by the European Neighborhood Policy.

Customs railway and data experts in globe gathered in the first Global Railway Workshop towards the development of WCO Railway Guidelines

From 13 to 16 October 2020, the World Customs Organization (WCO) successfully held the first Global Railway Workshop virtually via the KUDO platform with the support of CCF Korea. This first workshop aimed at understanding the current situation and challenges of railway transportation and exploring key elements for suitable Customs procedures and controls in railway transportation including digitalization of railway transit with standardized datasets.  Over 120 participants from Member Customs administrations around the globe and 30 speakers from Customs administrations, International organizations and Academia who shared their experiences related to railway transportation gathered in this workshop.  

COVID-19: WCO Secretariat shares guidance with Customs on efficient communication strategies during a crisis

In view of the global health emergency situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Customs Organization (WCO) Secretariat has published a “WCO Guidance on how to communicate during a crisis” to assist its Members in reacting to communication challenges posed by the global crisis. The document has been published on the WCO’s COVID-19 dedicated webpage and Members and partners are invited to share any best practices in this specific area to further enhance the document.
