WCO Data Model (DM) version 3.11.0 available now in interactive mode free of charge

The Data Model Projects Team (DMPT) is committed to producing annual releases of the WCO DM in order to keep the DM up to date. A transparent maintenance procedure was put in place to enable interested parties to request changes to the WCO DM. The publication by the WCO of version 3.11.0 in December 2021 marks the culmination of the maintenance process undertaken by the DMPT in its meetings held from September 2020 to April 2021.

Launching the 2021 edition of the Advanced Course on Tax and Customs Administration Management

The 2021 edition of the Advanced Course on Tax and Customs Administration Management started on 17 November 2021. This course is a joint initiative between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) through its Technical Assistance Center for Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic (CAPTAC-DR); the Institute of Fiscal Studies of Spain (IEF), with the collaboration of the National Distance Education University (UNED), the WCO and with the support of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP).

Two Regional Workshops held to support the Americas and Caribbean Region in implementing the Harmonized System 2022 in a post-pandemic environment

Two Regional Workshops on the Harmonized System (HS) 2022 amendments, attended by 54 officials from 20 countries*, were held virtually for the Customs Administrations of the Americas and the Caribbean Region, under the sponsorship of the Dominican Republic Customs, from 15 to 17 November 2021. The Workshops, held separately for English- and Spanish-speaking countries, were organized by the WCO Tariff and Trade Affairs Directorate in collaboration with the Regional Training Centre “Juan Bosh” of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Deputy Secretary General participates in opening of IAPH-WCO Workshop on Best Practices in Customs & Ports Collaboration

On 23 November 2021, the WCO Deputy Secretary General attended an IAPH-WCO Workshop on Best Practices in Customs & Ports Collaboration to accelerate digitalization for trade facilitation and supply chain security. The aim of the Workshop, co-organized by the WCO and IAPH, was to launch a reinforced partnership between Customs and Port authorities for smoother and more efficient supply chains.

Customs: EU proposes World Customs Organization modernisation in support of a strengthened multilateral order

The EU is presenting for the first time its initiative for broad reform of the World Customs Organization (WCO), the global forum that shapes international standards and common action in the field of customs. The modernisation initiative would help strengthen the WCO’s position as a key multilateral institution and help it address developments in today’s ever-changing international trade environment more effectively, while supporting the green and digital transitions. The EU initiative will be presented to all WCO Members at the WCO Council session which starts today.

As part of the agreements between the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC, Commission) and the Russian Foreign Trade Academy of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Department of Customs Legislation (Department) held a lecture for students of the International Law Faculty of this Academy. The topic of the lesson was the improvement of customs regulation in the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU, Union), the prospects for development of digital innovative technologies in the EEU customs sphere, as well as building productive relations between the Commission and the World Customs Organization (WCO).

WCO and Egmont Group Launch the Worldwide Distribution of the Customs-FIU Cooperation Handbook in Six Languages

The World Customs Organization (WCO and the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) are pleased to announce the translation and launch of the WCO and Egmont Group members’ version of the Customs – FIU Cooperation Handbook (CFCH) in four additional languages.  The CFCH has recently been translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and Russian.  The CFCH was conceptualized and created by experts from the WCO Anti-money Laundering and Counter-terrorism Financing Programme and the Egmont Group, to include the FIUs of Hungary, Germany and Denmark.  The CFCH was designed to serve as both a reference tool and a guide for all Customs services and FIUs in their daily effort to combat illicit financial flows touching upon the Customs arena.
