WCO Conducts the Second Accreditation workshop for Mercator Programme Advisors

wcoThe WCO conducted a second accreditation workshop for Mercator Programme Advisors from 7 to 11 March 2016Saint Albans, United Kingdom (UK). The Mercator Programme aims to support WCO Members in their efforts to implement the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement. In attendance were UK customs officials that were joined by other participants from Brazil, Mexico and Sweden.

The WCO is currently strengthening its efforts to cascade the success of the past accreditation workshops for the benefit of its Members by widening its pool of Experts.

The objective of the workshop was to accredit individuals with comprehensive experience and skills in change management, strategic planning, and organizational development. As an accredited expert, these advisors will be in a position to support WCO Members in the planning and implementation of their Customs modernization initiatives, particularly in relation to the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement. They may also be called upon to facilitate dialogue with donors and policy-makers on the importance of investing in Customs reform and modernization.

The participants reported upon the professional and personal benefits of the workshop programme. Examples included the opportunity to become familiar with the WCO Capacity Building agenda, strategic planning methodologies, share experience with other practitioners, as well as learn more about key WCO instruments and standards.

The accreditation process will continue for the participants that qualified to the next stage which includes conducting an in-country mission.
