On 23 October 2023, the World Customs Organization (WCO) held its second Symposium on E-Commerce and Customs Valuation.
Following the first Symposium in February, which underscored numerous challenges stemming from E-Commerce transactions, the latest Symposium delved into various practical issues. These included policies, procedures and practices, aimed at confronting the challenges posed by the ever-evolving trade dynamics of E-Commerce.

In the last few years, with the initiation of the WCO Anti-Corruption and Integrity-Promotion (A-CIP) technical assistance and capacity building programme for Customs in 2019, the WCO has been helping Members look towards new ways to tackle corruption within their ranks, in its many forms.

The Word Customs Organization’s (WCO) Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme focuses on implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) for effective Customs and border reforms with the aim to reduce complexities at the border, foster digitalization and boost the business environment and national competitiveness of partner countries.

The Secretariat of the World Customs Organization presented to the attention of the customs authorities and the academic community a new issue of the «WCO news» magazine. The theme of the issue is «Focus on the port environment», and the materials are published in English.
12 October 2023 marked the end of the 3-day WCO Technology Conference and Exhibition held in Ha Noi, Viet Nam under the theme “Embracing the Digital Age: Leveraging Technology, Fostering Innovation, and Nurturing the Next Generation of Customs Professionals”. In their closing remarks Nguyen Van Tho, Deputy Director General of Viet Nam Customs and Hans Pieters, Head of Administration and Personnel at the World Customs Organization thanked all involved in the Conference and outlined some key take-aways.
The World Customs Organization (WCO) is pleased to present its new mobile application “HS Browse & Check”, a mobile application designed to provide customs professionals and international trade enthusiasts with convenient access to the Harmonized System (HS) 2022.

Second Symposium
On 23 October, Customs administrations, international organizations and private sector enterprises will come together to discuss the profound challenges facing E-Commerce in respect to Customs valuation and to look at the current reforms and progress achieved. This will mark the second symposium on E-Commerce and Customs valuation, following an event on the same topic earlier in the year that saw substantial attendance.

On September 26, 2023 the Institute of Foreign Economic Security and Customs of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lulumba (RUDN) held an on-line seminar on the topic “Customs: international, integration and national legal regulation.” The seminar participants are 4th and 5th year students of the university.
