On November 14, 2023, the “Export League” forum was held in Minsk, Republic of Belarus, which brought together more than 200 companies working for export, as well as representatives of government agencies and export support institutions. The event organizer is the National Marketing Center. On the agenda are current issues of developing foreign economic activity, searching for effective solutions to increase supplies abroad and promote exports.

WCO SECRETARY GENERAL LAUNCHES A PRACTICAL GUIDE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE AFCFTA RULES OF ORIGIN, UNDER THE FRAMEWORK OF THE EU-WCO RULES OF ORIGIN AFRICA PROGRAMME

The World Customs Organization with the support of the European Union under the EU-WCO Rules of Origin Africa Programme has developed a Practical Guide to assist Customs Administrations and economic operators with the practical implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Annex 2 on Rules of Origin of the Protocol on Trade and its relevant appendices.

WCO WELCOMES G7 TRADE MINISTERS’ STATEMENT ON ENHANCING GLOBAL TRADE AND CUSTOMS OPERATIONS

The G7 Trade Ministers issued a Statement at a meeting in Osaka-Sakai on 29 October 2023, outlining various policies necessitating actions by Customs administrations. These areas include enhancing supply chain resilience, regulating e-commerce, and addressing the interplay between trade and environmental/climate change issues. The statement is available here.

ADVANCING CUSTOMS IN THE DIGITAL ERA: INSIGHT FROM THE 241ST/242ND PERMANENT TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETING

The 241st/242nd Sessions of the Permanent Technical Committee (PTC) took place in Brussels from 24 to 26 October 2023. The event gathered more than 300 participants attending in person and online, comprising a wide range of professionals from Member administrations, international organizations, academia, and the private sector. The blend of perspectives and experiences added depth and richness to the discussions. Over the years, this committee has played a pivotal role in promoting trade facilitation instruments and tools, and addressing contemporary challenges that Customs are facing.

WCO ORGANIZES SECOND SYMPOSIUM ON E-COMMERCE AND CUSTOMS VALUATION

On 23 October 2023, the World Customs Organization (WCO) held its second Symposium on E-Commerce and Customs Valuation.

Following the first Symposium in February, which underscored numerous challenges stemming from E-Commerce transactions, the latest Symposium delved into various practical issues. These included policies, procedures and practices, aimed at confronting the challenges posed by the ever-evolving trade dynamics of E-Commerce.
