On 11 June 2024, the World Customs Organization (WCO) held a Symposium at its Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, focusing on “Removing counterfeits from e-commerce”. The event highlighted the outcomes of Operation STOP III, following the release of its comprehensive report.
Background
For some years now, counterfeiting and piracy have been growing in sophistication. Similarly, e-commerce represents an increasingly serious challenge for Customs administrations because of the proliferation of small consignments. Although e-commerce has had a revolutionary impact on trade and trade practices, it also presents a significant number of issues at the border.

From May 8-10, 2024, the World Customs Organization (WCO) convened its 6th Global Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Conference in the vibrant city of Shenzhen, China. Marking the return to in-person gatherings following the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic, this Conference, supported by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, brought together an array of global trade leaders under the theme “Harnessing the Power of AEO Programmes for Inclusive and Sustainable Global Trade.” Over three days, the event served as a platform for insightful discussions on the future of international trade and the pivotal role of AEO programmes.
