ONLINE JOINT WCO-WTO LAUNCH OF THE STUDY REPORT ON DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES 2022

РУССКИЙ

Dear friends,

On February 10, 2023 we presented to you two joint publications of the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO): WCO/WTO Study Report on Disruptive Technologies (June 2022) and WCO/WTO paper “The role of advanced technologies in cross-border trade: A customs perspective” (2021).

In continuation of this topic, I inform you that on October 3, 2022, the WCO and the WTO held a conference at which the Study Report on Disruptive Technologies was presented.

Around 900 participants from around the world, including Customs, the private sector, academia, government agencies, and international organizations registered for this event.

Note: the WCO and the WTO Secretariats jointly presented the key findings of the Study Report. The first part of the report focuses on seven technologies, namely: blockchain and distributed ledger technology; Internet of Things, big data, data analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning; biometrics; drones; virtual, augmented and mixed reality; and, 3D printing. The second part includes forty two case studies from Customs administrations, the private sector, international organizations and other stakeholders. The Study Report also provides recommendations and lessons learnt, as well as WCO and WTO initiatives in this area.

Subscribers of the telegram channel “Russian customs academy: SCIENCE” are invited to familiarize themselves with the video recording of the conference (see above), as well as the voiced reports from WCO experts, the international customs and expert community.

I am sure that for those who study specialized courses such as “English for Customs” or in general pay serious attention to learning English, listening to the recording of this WCO/WTO scientific and practical event will enrich your knowledge.

I strongly recommend to study foreign languages for students and graduate students. My personal experience shows that this knowledge will allow you to open many doors in the professional field, and for researchers to get acquainted with legal regulations, best practices in customs administration, research materials presented in a foreign language.
