SPEU “LETI” DEVELOPED A UNIQUE COMPUTER TRAINING COMPLEX

РУССКИЙ

The computer training complex, which has no analogues in Russia, uses a marked database of fluoroscopic images with photographs of control objects and gives recommendations on actions when dangerous objects are detected.

The successful experience of implementing in 2022 by the St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University “LETI” additional professional programs for the training of operators of inspection X-ray machines (X-ray machines) for various departments of the Russian Federation determined the need to develop a domestic import-substituting software product – a simulator for training operators of X-ray machines, which allows automated to implement all stages of training: from getting acquainted with typical objects found in hand luggage and luggage of individuals, to identifying complex composite objects, such as explosive devices, dual-use objects, and others, within a given time frame.

In this regard, the scientific group of the Department of Applied Mechanics and Engineering Graphics of LETI, under the guidance of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development Mr. Petr Nikolayevich Afonin, developed an author’s method for training X-ray machines operators, which has no analogues in Russia “Computer training complex for training operators of inspection X-ray machines” (Afonin P.N., Mikhailik A.K. Training system for working with fluoroscopic images // Certificate of registration of the computer program 2022683634, 06.12.2022. Application № 2022683665 dated 06.12.2022). The developed software uses a labeled database of fluoroscopic images with photographs of control objects and gives recommendations on actions to be taken when hazardous objects are detected.

“Our university has great experience in developing non-destructive X-ray testing systems for various sectors of the national economy. More than ten years ago, together with the head of the Department of Electronic Instruments and Devices, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Nikolai Nikolayevich Potrakhov, a patent of the Russian Federation was obtained for the development of an inspection complex for the purposes of customs and border control. Today, a group of the Department of Applied Mechanics and Engineering Graphics was the first in Russia to develop a computer training complex for training operators of inspection X-ray machines, and equipped a specialized laboratory with the appropriate equipment.” (Vice-Rector for Strategic Development of Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” Petr Nikolayevich Afonin)

The author’s methodology for training operators of inspection X-ray machines developed at LETI is in line with the university’s research policy as part of the Priority 2030 development program. Customs control technologies will be the main topic of the II International Practical Conference “Intelligent checkpoint in Russia and the world: a competence-based approach to creation”, which will be held at LETI on February 16-17.
