WCO publishes PICARD Conference Agenda

The WCO has published the Agenda for the upcoming WCO PICARD Conference which will take place in Hammamet, Tunisia, from 26 to 28 September 2017.

Featured this year are high-level speakers from a broad spectrum of academic, governmental, and private sector entities and think-tanks, including the Borders In Globalization Project, Global Financial Integrity, the World Bank Group and several universities from Australia; Austria; Canada; China; France; the Netherlands; Poland; Tunisia; United Kingdom and the United States.  The WCO is also pleased to welcome Mr. Abdel Kaider Haidara to the PICARD Conference this year to discuss the role of society, and that of smugglers, with respect to border security. Mr. Haidara was responsible for saving over 375,000 ancient manuscripts from certain destruction when Islamist rebels entered Timbuktu in 2012.

Presenters were chosen from a competitive pool of over 80 submissions to the PICARD Call for Papers, issued in February 2017. Traditionally, the PICARD Conference has been characterized by the presence of Customs professionals dedicated to the pursuit of academic research on Customs-related topics, and this year is no different. Customs officers from countries such as India, Malawi, Switzerland, Peru and Turkey will present their ongoing research on topics such as security, trade facilitation and the application of data analysis to Customs processes. The WCO is also pleased to welcome Mr. Eric Rabenja in his capacity as Director General of Madagascar Customs to the Conference to present the experience of Madagascar Customs in the domain of performance measurement.

Registration is free for Customs and academic professionals. We look forward to seeing you in Tunisia!
