Regional Workshop on Air Cargo Security and Facilitation – an opportunity for enhanced collaboration between Customs and Aviation Authorities working on the ground

From 11 to 15 February 2019, the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) held a third joint Workshop on Air Cargo Security and Facilitation.  The workshop was organized at the East African School of Aviation (EASA) in Nairobi, Kenya, with the financial support of the Korea Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF-Korea) and the assistance of the EASA and the ICAO Eastern and Southern African (ESAF) Office as well as the WCO East and Southern Africa Regional Office for Capacity Building (WCO ESA ROCB).  This workshop has been promoted as a part of the ICAO/WCO Joint Action Plan in order to identify the most effective means of cooperation between the two organizations in harmonizing related aviation security measures.

13th Meeting of the Audit Committee

On 11-12 February 2019, the 13th Audit Committee meeting took place at WCO premises under the Chairmanship of Mr. Bjørn Røse (Norway). The meeting was attended by 10 of the 12 Audit Committee Members, and by the Chairperson of the Finance Committee as observer. The Secretariat was represented by Mr. Ricardo Treviño Chapa, Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Hans Pieters, Head of Personnel, and by the internal auditors Mr. Jochen Meyer and Ms. Annegret Rohloff.

Opening of the WCO’s 77th Fellowship Programme

The 77th WCO Fellowship Programme, intended for French-speakers, was launched in Brussels on Monday 28 January 2019.

This Programme forms part of the WCO’s initiatives to develop the management capacities of Member administrations in support of Customs Reform and Modernization programmes. It is designed to provide promising young managers from Member administrations with access to and further familiarization with WCO and international standards, tools and instruments, but also with training in supervisory and management techniques, so as to help them carry out reform and modernization within their respective administrations in a dynamic and sustainable manner.
