Представители белорусской таможни во главе с заместителем Председателя Государственного таможенного комитета Александром Богдевичем  с 7 по 12 декабря принимают участие в заседаниях 83-й сессии Политической комиссии и 137-й сессии Совета Всемирной таможенной организации. С учетом сложившейся эпидемиологической обстановки мероприятия проходят в онлайн-режиме.

WCO Research Paper № 50. Current situation, analysis and observations on waste control at borders by Customs

The global environment surrounding waste control at borders is evolving. Heightened import restrictions on waste by several countries in the last couple of years have impacted the way the world tackles waste. In addition, the new international rules based on the amendment of the Basel Convention will expand the Convention’s regulatory scope to cover plastic waste from January 2021 onwards. These changes assign greater importance to the role of Customs and strategies within Customs, as the major frontline organization at the border embedded in this globally evolving situation.

ADB-ESCAP webinar highlights the role of Customs during COVID-19

At the invitation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the WCO Secretary General, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, spoke at the High-Level Meeting on Regional Cooperation for Trade and Transport Connectivity in the Age of Pandemics in Asia and the Pacific, held virtually on 2 December 2020. The aim of his intervention was to underline the vital role played by Customs in ensuring regional connectivity during the current emergency situation.

Kazakhstan benefits from an Online National Workshop on Transit

A WCO Online National Workshop on Transit for the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan was delivered from 24 to 26 November 2020. The theme of the workshop was “National Transit Coordinator – Article 11 of the Agreement on Trade Facilitation of the World Trade Organization (WTO TFA)” and it was organised with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

WCO Global Free Zone Online Conference (14 December 2020)

The WCO, with the support of the Government of Japan, will host the first WCO Global Free Zone Online Conference under the theme “Meeting the SDGs – Ensuring Customs involvement for Free Zones’ competitiveness, safety and sustainability” for Customs administrations and external stakeholder partners. The Conference will be held virtually on 14 December 2020. The working language of the Online Conference will be English and French using the KUDO Platform. The WCO originally planned to organize a Global Free Zone Conference on 29 June 2020 at WCO headquarters but unfortunately, this event was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
