Under the sponsorship of the China Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF China) and in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN/ESCAP) and the Eurasian Economic Commission, a Sub-Regional Workshop titled “Trade Facilitation, Promoting Inclusive Trade through Innovation and Technology: the Roles of E-Commerce, Trade Finance, and National Single Window Environments” has been hosted in Yerevan by the Customs Administration of Armenia from 11 to 13 June 2019. The Workshop was aimed at strengthening Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Members and Central Asian countries’ capacity to grasp the opportunities that technology and innovation offer in unlocking the gains from the seamless flow of goods across borders and towards developing a harmonized approach in implementation and interoperability of Single Window solutions.

MONOGRAPH «DIGITAL CUSTOMS. THE WCO Experience»
In June 2019 the WCO Regional Training Center and the Russian Customs Academy published the MONOGRAPH «DIGITAL CUSTOMS. WCO Experience». The author of the monograph is Mr. Mozer Sergei, Deputy Head of the Division of Advanced Customs Technologies, Department of Customs Legislation of the Eurasian Economic Commission (hereinafter – EEC), Senior Researcher of the Research Institute of the Russian Customs Academy, PhD in Law.
WCO Conference on technology kicks off in Baku
Around 900 delegates from almost 90 countries, representing the public and private sector, academia and international organizations, gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan on Wednesday 12 June 2019 to attend the WCO IT/TI Conference and Exhibition, a three-day event that will discuss implementation of technologies and its related challenges and opportunities. The event is being co-hosted by the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, with the support of the Korea Customs Service (KCS) and private sector companies, including the Corporate sponsor of the event, Rapiscan/AS&E/S2Global.
Risk Management and Selectivity Workshop in Nicaragua
Following a request from the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) of Nicaragua the WCO, with the support of the Japan Customs Cooperation Fund, conducted a national workshop on risk management and selectivity in Managua, Nicaragua from 20 to 24 May 2019.
WCO participation in the First African Union Workshop on Pre-Shipment Inspections
The First Workshop of the African Union Technical Customs Working Group on Pre-Shipment Inspections took place in Moroni, Comoros from 29 to 31 May 2019. The Workshop was organized by the African Union Commission, in collaboration with the World Customs Organization (WCO) West and Central Africa Regional Office for Capacity Building (WCA-ROCB). In his introductory speech, Mr. Souef Kamalidini, Director General of Comoros Customs, thanked the WCO for its technical assistance, which was central to the positive changes and reforms of African Customs administrations. The main objective of this Workshop was to create a framework for collaboration, and for sharing experiences and good practices between countries that have already terminated their contract with inspection companies and those still using them.

On April 18, 2019 a discussion-lecture was held on the topic «Development of the WCO digital customs institution in the framework of international customs cooperation». The event was organized for students of the Customs Faculty of the Russian Customs Academy in the field of study «International cooperation of customs administrations». The lecture was held by Sergei Mozer, Deputy Head of Division of Advanced Customs Technologies, Department of Customs Legislation of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC, Commission).
